Ruth Wittenberg, a long-standing community activist, served on a number of civic organizations concerned with the refurbishing and rehabilitation of Washington Square Park between the years 1964 and 1972. She served as the Vice Chairman of Community Planning Board #2 and as Secretary of the Architects Committee assigned to the rehabilitation of the Park.
